Is it OK to chat someone up at a rave?
Short answer: usually not on the dancefloor. Here's when it's fine – and when to leave people to it.
In short
- On the dancefloor, generally no.
- The smoking area's a better bet – ask respectfully.
- Plenty of people just want to dance. Respect that.
Generally, no – especially not on the dancefloor. People are there for the music.
Try the smoking area
The smoking area is a godsend – it's either sardines or a lungful of fresh air. It's a better place to talk, but be wary. A lot of people, women in particular, just want to dance. Sometimes it's fine to ask, respectfully. Sometimes people want to make friends, or be on their own or with their group. Respect that.
Let it happen
Often it's a group of friends you meet on a night out who end up introducing you to someone. Serendipity is everything.
